Thang Sothea

Thang Sothea portrait 2_edited.jpg

Thang Sothea is a young Cambodian artist born in 1984 whose work spans various mediums, mainly composed of iron, steel, hemp, sculptures, painting, drawing, and printmaking. His art often delves into themes of identity, culture, and history, reflecting on Cambodia's past and present and trying to represent human development.

Sothea’s work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally, earning him recognition as an influential figure in contemporary Cambodian art. Graduated in architecture and urbanism, Sothea Tang gave up his career in an architecture office in 2009 to devote entirely to art.

From 2015, the young artist spread his creation field with a series of sculptures entitled «Manu» (humanity in Khmer) soon completed with the series «Devata» (divinity in Hindu and angel connotation in Khmer).

The artist always keeps a global aesthetic of his contemporary artworks while enrolling deeper and deeper in the traditional Cambodian culture as a source of inspiration.
