Nou Sary

NOU Sary is a well established Cambodian artist whose work explores the intricate relationship between nature and humanity, often reflecting on the challenges and beauty of this connection.
Born in 1971 in Kandal province, Cambodia, his artistic journey began at the Royal University of Fine Arts in Phnom Penh, where he studied from 1994 to 2000. In 2001, he expanded his artistic horizons in France, studying at the Saint Étienne School of Art and Design where he earned a postgraduate diploma in plastic arts in 2006.

Central to Sary's art is the depiction of Cambodia's traditional rural life. His paintings frequently showcase rice fields, farmers, monks, and daily village scenes, emphasizing the cyclical nature of life and the deep connection between humans and the land.

Through his paintings, Sary invites viewers to experience the world as he perceives it—rich in color, sensory depth, and utilizing vibrant palettes—greens and yellows symbolizing vegetation, deep blues for water, and earthy browns for soil, a reflection of both the beauty and the challenges faced in
human interaction with the natural world.
