Nou Sary

Nou Sary is a well-established Cambodian artist whose work explores the deep connection between nature and humanity. Born in 1971 in Kandal province, Cambodia, he studied at the Royal University of Fine Arts in Phnom Penh from 1994 to 2000. In 2001, he moved to France to continue his artistic journey, earning a Diplôme National Supérieur d’Expression Plastique from the École des Beaux-Arts de Saint-Étienne in 2006.

Sary is a multi-disciplinary artist known for his vibrant paintings, sculpture, engraving, and installation work. His art is rooted in the depiction of Cambodia’s traditional rural life—rice fields, farmers, monks, and village scenes—capturing the everyday with sensitivity and color. His highly recognizable brush strokes skillfully capture light and motion, suggesting sensory depth and emotional resonance.
Deeply inspired by Cambodia’s natural landscapes and the rhythms of agrarian life, Sary’s recent collections adopt bold bird’s-eye perspectives, offering a fresh vantage point on familiar environments. These works invite viewers to reflect on ecological preservation and the enduring relationship between people and the land.

Now based in Siem Reap, Nou Sary continues to engage audiences in a visual dialogue around sustainability, tradition, and beauty—bringing forward a uniquely Cambodian narrative in contemporary art.
